Abstract. Madung Z, Soloi S, Majid MHA, Sarjadi MS. 2022. Production and characterization of Imperata cylindrica paper using potassium hydroxide as pulping agent. Biodiversitas 23: 1490-1494. Non-woody plants have become an alternative fiber in production woods, the primary sources papers limited due to increasing demand year by year. or cogon grass source for pulp industry replacing wood because it has high cellulose low lignin content. In this study, grasses were treated with various concentrations hydroxide, KOH (5%, 8%, 10% 12%). The effects alkali treatment on properties investigated present study. Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) image sheet indicates that amount other materials lessening toward a higher concentration treatment. This explained most was entirely removed some probably degraded at concentrations. Fourier Transform Infa-Red (FTIR) analysis showed peaks range 1650 cm-1-1630 cm-1 attributed presence v(C=C) aromatic ring disappeared 12% KOH. mechanical strength decreased KOH, while 5% produced highest value tensile strength.

Neuroprotective 2-(2-phenylethyl)chromones of Imperata cylindrica.

Bioactivity-guided fractionation of the methanolic extract of the rhizomes of Imperata cylindrica afforded a new compound, 5-hydroxy-2-(2-phenylethyl)chromone (1), together with three known compounds, 5-hydroxy-2-[2-(2-hydroxyphenyl)ethyl]chromone (2), flidersiachromone (3), and 5-hydroxy-2-styrylchromone (4). Among these four compounds, 1 and 2 showed significant neuroprotective activity again...

Tabanone, a New Phytotoxic Constituent of Cogongrass (Imperata cylindrica)

Cogongrass is a troublesome, invasive weedy species with reported allelopathic properties. The phytotoxicity of different constituents isolated from roots and aerial parts of this species was evaluated on garden lettuce and creeping bentgrass. No significant phytotoxic activity was detected in the methylene chloride, methanol, or water extracts when tested at 1.0 mg ml. However, the total essen...

Invasion Success in Cogongrass (Imperata cylindrica): A Population Genetic Approach Exploring Genetic Diversity and Historical Introductions

Propagule pressure significantly contributes to and limits the potential success of a biological invasion, especially during transport, introduction, and establishment. Events such as multiple introductions of foreign parent material and gene flow among them can increase genetic diversity in founding populations, often leading to greater invasion success. We applied the tools and theory of popu...
